Let me start by saying I am no super mom- I don’t even think Im an all-star Mom. If they had a level right above a participation award- that’s where I land on the Mom award spectrum.
My son was about 5 months old when I picked him up from daycare and got the invite. “Were having a Valentine’s day party! Mom and Dad please come by between 9 and 10 on February 14th for a snack with your baby!” I thought awe how cute, put the time in the calendar on my phone and totally forgot about it.
So here comes Valentine’s Day. I drop my son off and the teacher reminds me to come back by at 9 for the party. My day was busy but I figured out a way to swing by the school around 9:15. Ill never forget walking into that room. Every other child in the class room was dressed in Valentines day clothing AS WERE THEIR PARENTS. That’s right people I said parents, my son was the only child (only boy in the class of 4 other girls) who did not have both parents attend and was not in full Valentines regalia. On top of that all of the other parents had presents for the other children.
We had to sit in circle and pass the presents out. I was totally mortified. I was literally digging through my purse for gum wrappers or anything shiny I could had the other kids. I snuck out in the hallway and called my husband panicked!
Me “You have to go buy 4 presents for the girls in Jackson’s class and drive them to the school right now, Im the worst Mom in the world!”
Husband: “Most of those kids are like 5 weeks old Im pretty sure they won’t remember, your fine quit freaking out.” (by the way am I the only woman who looses her mind when her husband tells her to Stop freaking out?)
Me “GO BUY SOME DAMN ROSES THEN AND BRING THEM NOW!!”
Husband “Have you been drinking? Im in a huge meeting, Ill call you later.”
Once I got home and bathed in my self-pity I promised I would never make that mistake again. So for St. Patrick ’s Day THIS GIRL WENT ALL OUT! Im talking custom Etsy shirt, presents for all the kids, teachers, and director which I stayed up all night making. If your wondering- no the school didn’t celebrate St. Patrick’s day but I needed to redeem myself DAMMIT!
What did I learn from this?
1. Im bat shit crazy but that’s not really new.
2. There has to be a happy medium. I need to be able to do the fun things with my child but not at the expense of my bank account or more importantly my sanity. So this blog is an attempt to find and share ways busy Moms (not just working moms) can compromise. WE CAN HAVE IT ALL, especially if we all share our secrets! Because Lord knows this girl needs all the help I can get!
Yes I had professional photos made to go with the cards on the gifts- I wanted you to get the full scope of how nuts I went trying to keep up.
